Inclusion & SEND

At Springfield, we hold high expectations for children with SEND and our provision ensures that all children make great progress from their respective starting points. We make necessary adaptations and adjustments to the curriculum to ensure that barriers to learning are removed and individual needs are met. Our provision ensures that children have regular opportunities to prepare for adulthood from EYFS to Year 6, developing strategies to support our children to self-regulate, communicate effectively and build independence and confidence.

1. Identifying and supporting additional needs

We follow the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle which allows teachers, alongside the SENDCo to observe children’s needs and tailor provision accordingly.

Where targeted support is needed, a Learning Support Plan will be created which is shared with parents and carers. Targeted interventions will be put in place to further support children to make progress. Learning Support Plans are reviewed termly, each term parents/carers receive a copy of the updated learning plan and are invited to share their views.

2. Working in partnership with families

We believe in working closely with our families to enhance pupil learning and well-being by fostering open communication and promoting active involvement. This is achieved though regular parent workshops, parent consultation evenings, access to support from the wider professionals who work with the school as well as direct contact with teachers and the leadership team. Our approach ensures that our families’ voice is heard and any concerns raised are addressed fully.

3. Specialist support and external agencies

Where targeted support is identified, external professionals may be asked to support with tailoring the provision to effectively meet the needs of the child. They will liaise with all key stakeholders, including the children where appropriate, to gather accurate information about the children so they can confidently decide next steps. Parental consent is always obtained before any involvement from additional professionals.

We have access to a wide range of wider professionals to support our children and their families:

Well-Being and Mental Health Service WAHMS, Speech and Language Therapist, Educational Psychologist, Occupation Therapy, Specialist Teacher, Re-Engagement Unit, School Nursing Team, Family Coaching and RUN -School Counsellor Service

Termly meetings are held with all professionals working with the school to co-ordinate, monitor and review involvement and progress.
